A performance of the play ≈ [Almost Equal To], presented at Point Park University’s Pittsburgh Playhouse, has been recognized with several Kennedy Center American College Theater Awards, sponsored by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
The festival, a national organization promoting the educational and creative process of university and college theater, was founded 56 years ago and has held a conference every year since, including virtually during the 2021 and 2022 school years.
In January and February 2024, eight Regional Festivals showcased productions, offered workshops, and celebrated students’ work at the festival. Point Park University was the host school for Region 2, where students presented Jonas Hassen Khemiri’s play, ≈ [Almost Equal To].
Among the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) honors granted to ≈ [Almost Equal To] is the Citizen Artist Award, which “recognizes programs in higher education using theatrical production to promote long-term societal impact in artistic terms, encouraging empathetic exploration of the complex cultural and physical world, and advocating for justice on campus and throughout the world.”
